I need your help...

So I have a bedroom set for our guest bedroom...but the only thing is that it's oak. So I have a plan to paint it white, preferably with some distressing. I've checked out different techniques, like crackling and distressing, but I've never done this before. So here's where you all come in. Can you give me advice on re-doing wood furniture? I'd love to hear your expertise...since I know some of you have done this before!!

I love my husband but...

I have to tell this quick little story.
An ad comes on TV for Aveeno moisturizer with Shitake mushroom elements in it (apparently they have anti-aging properties in them). Dave looks at me totally serious and says...
"I thought 'shitake' was some made up word, not a real thing".
haha. I love this guy. We can also add this experience to the time Dave was dumbfounded when he first saw edemame. He thought it was a made up word for peas that Katie and the girls and I used. Can you tell he's a simplist when it comes to food or what?

I love you Dave!

so simple...

...yet so nice! Tonight Dave took my truck to go pick up a lawnmower from a guy he works with. And since i can't drive his car (ok, I could if I really wanted to...) I decided to walk to Ralphs to buy something for dinner. So I took off on foot up the neighborhood and off to the store. It was just such a nice night to be out! Everyone must have been thinking the same as me, because I saw Josh & Jennifer Proffit with their kids on a walk by the lake. I picked up some salmon for Dave, chicken for myself, and strawberries, on sale for .99 cents! Now we're sitting here watching Dancing with the Stars and dinner was delish. It was just one of those nice evenings. I might even finish it off with a skinny cow...

Smells like fresh paint

So Dave and I got a bit anxious and decided to buy paint and paint our 1/2 bath. We've been looking at colors since before the house came along, so we knew what we wanted. On like our umpteenth time to Lowes this week we found paint on sale, so we said, why not? Here are some pictures. Now I need to add some decorating touches to the space. New touches, seeing as how my black hand towels and rug don't really go now.
Any ideas??

Rewind to Saturday. We worked in the yard. My new word for it..."Yardening". Not quite gardening, not just weeding. And speaking of weed...I hear Dave say" hey, check this out". I walk over to see this little guy (was fresh and not curled up) on the walkway. I'm not too up on my marijuana, so i don't know if it's legit...but we got a good laugh. Among that we found a bunch of randoms in the bushes....
- Farberware steak knife (creeepy)
- Shoe insole (gross)
- Spiderman head from a toy
- Razor Blade
and an
- Icee wraper (made me want one)

Home Improvement

I used to listen to homeowners when they would comment on how all their money went into their house, and how they spent whole weekends doing improvement projects and think "hmmm...will that really be me? I think I prefer spending money on ME". I was wrong. They were all right. It's barely been 6 days and already we've started lists, completed some projects, and started others. I have a mental list of all that we want to do, and really, there isn't enough time in the day!! So far Dave has been such a handy husband! I am so lucky that he works so hard and has the same goals as me to make this place our own!

This week we (he) has:

Helped Randy install a new thermostat

Replaced our old master toilet with a new one

Hooked up our bedroom cable to his desktop screen for TV in bed until we get a real TV

And as I type he is taking the wood panels from our fridge...

...and sanding them down to stain them to match the kitchen cabinets.

Yay for projects! And yay for a hard working husband!

(As i blog and get ready to read my book...haha)

.I'm so excited & I just can't hide it.

After a weekend and a Monday of hard work, numerous trips to Lowes, alot of swiffering, three loads of laundry in my own washer and dryer, and countless trips up and down stairs...our house has really turned into a home. We lucked out last night & scored an appointment to have the dish cable guy come this morning and switch our service, we found 2 inch blinds at lowes that were ready to install, and Dave did. Hording gift cards from birthdays and holidays has totally paid off, because we have really been lucky enough to not spend much out of pocket to get things we need and want. Tonight Randy came with Katie and the girls and installed a new thermostat (WOO HOO!) and now we have heat that keeps itself regulated and has a cute blue LED screen too! Last night my parents came over and hung out with us. My mom & I took a walk around the neighborhood looking at landscaping and talking about what to do with our yard. It was great to see them!

Everything still needs some decorating. Pictures need to be hung, accessories need to be bought, and i still need some pieces of furniture. But we're well under way!
